✨1,360 youth impacted this week✨

As we near the end of Term 1, we’re not slowing down!

Over 1,360 students have been impacted this week in schools across Australia and New Zealand through our LifeChanger programs.

A special shout out to our team in Victoria, who facilitated our Year 9 program to students at Coburg High School for the first time today 🙌

Our CEO, Scott Watters, recently presented to the P&C team at @repcoaustralia where he provided an update on the foundation and highlighted the importance of adapting to cope VS adapting to thrive. He also discussed the resilience line and cognitive reframing, providing the team with valuable insights to take away from the session.

Scott emphasised that, “while we are not naturally attracted to obstacles and challenges, we must work on finding out how to like them. This is always the pathway to growth and empowerment.” As he passionately stated, "The obstacle is the way!" By reframing our mindset and embracing obstacles, we can overcome challenges and achieve personal and professional success. 💛👊🏻

In this week’s workshop at St Philip’s Christian College Port Stephens in New South Wales, facilitators Kieran and Mel were handed letters from students thanking them for our programs!

We are so grateful for these moments and to be able to have an impact on our youth 🙌

Last week, we were fortunate enough to visit our partners at @gomvfc and deliver a program to their SEDA group.

These students are studying a double diploma in sport and business so our workshop touched on how to prepare for life after study.

We deep dived into leadership, communication, values and strengths.

The feedback was absolutely awesome!

✨ 100% of participants have a better understanding of leadership
✨ 100% of participants have a better understanding of their values
✨ 94% of participants understand they have strengths that will help them overcome challenges.

In our Tribe workshop, our youth participants have the chance to write an open hearted letter to a loved one who they are grateful for.
These letters are a great opportunity for our youth participants to practice gratitude and build stronger bonds with the people they love and care about.

We've seen letters written to friends, parents, teachers, and mentors, with some messages being so heartfelt they bring the recipient to tears.

“My mum wrote back straight away and said my open letter made her cry with happiness.”

We love seeing our young people understand the impact they can have and the importance of building a strong tribe!

Last year, we reached 20,000 youth and this year we are setting our sights even higher.

This year, we want to double that.

We are motivated to impact as many young lives as possible through our LifeChanger programs and address the youth mental health crisis head on.

We know young people are doing it tough, the statistics confirm it.
Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people aged between 15 - 24. Of the 9 people per day who die by suicide, 7 of those are men and 2 of those are women.

We are not prepared to accept this and things need to change.

We are determined to make a difference in the lives of our young people by improving their mental health, wellbeing and resilience.

We know our young people are strong and capable of amazing things. We're here to give them helping hand as they recognise their full potential.

An amazing day for Team NSW delivering our senior workshops to Year 11 and 12 at Kariong Mountains High School.

Who's in your tribe?
In our final workshop, Tribe, we focus on connection which we know is fundamental to good mental health.

We ask our young people to think about who's in their inner circle and consider:
💛 who do you turn to when times get tough?
💛 who do you trust?
💛 who are you grateful for?
💛 who do you feel most comfortable around?

We love seeing our youth show appreciation for their tribe and identify the people they can trust.

Mindfulness isn't just meditation and sitting in silence with your own thoughts.

Mindfulness can come in many forms and we explore this with our youth in our youth program.

Being mindful relates to being present and fully aware of where we are and what we're doing. Instead of our mind and body being pulled in every direction, mindfulness takes our attention to one task.

Mindfulness can look like swimming, meditating, listening to music, box breathing, walking in nature, listening to a podcast, painting or stretching.

With the fast pace of our lives and the world we live in, it's becoming harder and harder to stay mindful. But it's so much easier when we practice!

We all have light and dark inside of us. At LifeChanger, we call this our inner hero and our inner villain.

Our inner hero elevates us and represents when we are the best versions of ourselves.

Our inner villain takes us away from being our best and often comes out when we're not aligned with our values and beliefs.

Our inner villain can come out when we're feeling strong emotions, such as anger.

We speak to young people about the importance of understanding our inner villain. Not to ignore it or squash it down, but to understand its triggers and how it impacts our wellbeing.

It was another big week in programs across Australia and New Zealand, running 81 workshops with over 2,200 young people!

Some highlights include our New Zealand team training up 40 mentors at Whangaparāoa College and our Queensland team travelling to Dalby in rural Queensland to deliver programs over two epic days.

From 11 senior mentors to 40!

This week, our LifeChanger team in New Zealand visited Whangaparāoa College in Auckland.

On top of running our Activation workshop with Year 7, our facilitators trained up 40 senior mentors who will be supporting their peers through the full program. 11 seniors were signed up for training at the start but that number soon grew to 40!

We are so inspired to see these young people bravely putting themselves forward as leaders to support the Year 7 cohort.

Our physical and mental health go hand in hand.
When we are moving our bodies, our brain releases feel-good hormones called endorphins.

So movement isn't just important for our muscles, joints, organs and physical health. Movement is also crucial for maintaining positive mental health, sense of self and self-confidence.

Finding movement that feels good for you can be a journey and it can take us some time to discover the exercise we love.

But the beauty is, we get to discover it for ourselves. Whether that's playing sport, doing yoga, walking the dog, hitting the gym, or swimming - our options are endless and limitless.

And at the end of the day, our body and our mind always thanks us for it!

✨The Impact Of Our Programs ✨

Recently, Flinders University has been researching our LifeChanger programs to validate their impact.

The initial findings have blown us away, with the research suggesting LifeChanger workshops have a “multi-faceted impact” on our youth 🙌

Flinders University found our workshops facilitate students “acceptance of themselves, as well as others”.

They also found that up to 1/3 of students experienced “positive change” and feel more empowered to handle “anything that comes their way” 💛

It fills our hearts to see this kind of feedback about our programs and to see how our workshops are impacting the lives of youth across Australia, New Zealand and Africa.

Australians are struggling under the grip of a mental health crisis.

And, unfortunately, our young people are most at risk.

A large and growing number of young people are challenged by low levels of self-esteem, self-worth and isolation, leading to a multitude of negative outcomes including physical and mental illness, poor wellbeing and youth suicide.

75% of mental health problems emerge before the age of 25

1 in 4 young people feel isolated, disconnected and lonely most, or all, of the time.

4 out of 5 young people have experienced mental health issues in the last two years.

The LifeChanger program addresses the alarming and challenging statistics that face many of today's youth and their families by adopting a pre-emptive, holistic and sustainable approach to wellbeing.

This week, we had an absolute blast delivering Mentor Training at the Willaston Football Club in South Australia. We are super passionate about the positive impact that mentoring has on young people, and we believe that it's crucial for shaping our future generations.

During the training we were fortunate enough to meet an incredible mentor who stole our hearts - the one and only, 83-year-young Roberta. With over 50 years of experience as a head kindergarten manager, she is a force to be reckoned with! We were blown away by her unwavering commitment and dedication to making the world a better place. And, we have no doubt that the students she will work with will absolutely adore her! 💛

Mentors are an integral part of our LifeChanger programs, providing guidance, support, and sharing their own personal experiences with our program participants. It's through this mentorship that we can create a positive impact on the lives of young people, providing them with the tools they need to thrive in life.

Our diverse team of mentors, ranging from 16 to 83 years young, each bring a unique range of life experiences and perspectives to the table, making the mentorship experience more well-rounded and enriching for our program participants. From the energy and fresh ideas of our younger mentors to the seasoned expertise of our more senior mentors, everyone has something valuable to offer. It's this collective knowledge and guidance that makes our LifeChanger programs truly special and impactful for young people.

This week our Founder and some of the very fortunate LifeChanger team are in Uganda to work alongside the @cottononfoundation to support and empower youth in the region 💛

Meet Matthew and Riley 👋

Matthew and Riley are two of our awesome Year 10 mentors at Lake Munmorah High School. They have put their hand up to mentor their peers participating in the Youth Program ✨

Student mentors are absolutely crucial to our programs. Mentors provide a secure base and safe space for youth to explore and understand themselves 💛

We are so blown away by the passion and heart of our mentors. It is absolutely amazing to see how the next generation are motivated to care for eachother and give back!

Matthew is especially excited to show students that “everybody is welcome” and Riley can’t wait to connect with the Year 8 students and help them feel less alone.

We can’t wait to see the impact Riley, Matthew, and their Year 10 peers, have on the youth participating in the youth program!

That would have never happened if we didn’t have the opportunity and encouragement to sit down, one on one, and talk to each other. I believe that’s how all friendships start. small conversations.

It made me realise I spend 5 out of 7 days a week with these people and it is beneficial as a whole group that we get along!”

We know many young people are feeling lonely, isolated and disconnected. They need each other more than ever and building strong social connections has never been more important.

Our youth program allows our young people to come together, work with each other and build stronger bonds that are the foundation to positive mental health.

It’s been an amazing week in Australia and New Zealand with our workshops reaching over 1,500 young people!

This week has held so many highlights, including our Victorian team launching our senior workshops and our Queensland team inspiring over 230 Year 10 students.

A very special highlight was seeing our New Zealand team back in schools after some tough weeks contending with flash flooding and cyclones. Your resilience, heart and passion is so inspiring 💛

We had an awesome day at the Tweed Coolangatta Junior Football club with LifeChanger facilitators running the LifeChanger “Plank Off” Challenge.

There were some incredible efforts from both players and coaches. Cooper Beck was the eventual winner with an amazing 6 minutes and 20 secs of quality planking. Great job Coops, spend the Rebel voucher wisely!

Well done to the club for supporting youth both on and off the field! 🙌

It’s been an another awesome week at LifeChanger!

A true highlight was gathering in Geelong with 40 Cotton On global leaders, facilitating a LifeChanger session. It was inspiring to see so much passion and drive in the room to support the youth mental health cause. Thank you to the @cottononfoundation for your continued support!

Kieran bravely shares his experiences of being bullied in high school and has penned a book as a resource for young people experiencing bullying and their families and friends who don’t know how to help.
