THE 90 SECOND RESET: A Simple Wellbeing Habit Every Teacher Can Use

July 13, 2026

Teaching is a profession built on constant giving.

From the moment the first bell rings, you're making hundreds of decisions, managing emotions, supporting students and adapting to the unexpected. It's rewarding, but it can also be exhausting. The challenge is that teachers rarely have the luxury of taking a proper break between lessons. One class ends, another begins, and before you know it, you've carried the stress of one lesson into the next.

What if just 90 seconds could make a difference to teacher wellbeing

Why 90 Seconds?

Research shows that taking a brief moment to regulate your breathing and refocus your attention can help lower stress, improve concentration and increase emotional regulation. A short reset won't eliminate a busy day, but it can help you arrive more present for your next class. Think of it as pressing the reset button before stepping back into the classroom.

Let's try it now ...

The LifeChanger 90 Second Reset

1. Pause (20 seconds)

Before walking into your next classroom, stop for just a moment. Plant both feet on the ground and notice your surroundings. Allow yourself to pause instead of rushing straight into the next task.

2. Breathe (30 seconds)

Take three slow, deep breaths, breathing in through your nose for four seconds, then hold for two seconds. Exhale slowly through your mouth for six seconds. As you breathe out, consciously release any tension in your shoulders or jaw.

3. Refocus (40 seconds)

Ask yourself one simple question:

"What do my students need from me right now?" Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right now. Maybe they need encouragement. Maybe they need calm. Maybe they simply need your presence. This question shifts your focus away from everything that's happened and towards the opportunity in front of you.

Why It Works

Stress is contagious, but so is calm. Students are incredibly perceptive. They notice our tone, our body language and our emotional state long before we begin teaching. Taking just 90 seconds to regulate yourself can help create a calmer classroom, strengthen relationships and student wellbeing. When teachers feel more present, students often do too.

It's Not About Perfection

Some days you won't have 90 seconds; some days you'll forget and that's okay. The goal isn't perfection, but rather building a small habit that helps you look after yourself while continuing to support your students. Over time, those 90-second pauses can become one of the simplest and most powerful wellbeing strategies in your school day.
