10 YEARS OF LIFECHANGER ADVENTURE CHALLENGES

AMBASSADOR KARLA GILBERT: WITNESSES GROWTH, CONNECTION AND TRANSFORMATION

As LifeChanger approaches its 10th anniversary, I find myself reflecting on an incredible journey, not only for the organisation but also for me personally.

Ten years ago, I joined LifeChanger as an ambassador because I believed deeply in its mission: empowering young people and communities to discover their strengths, build resilience, and create meaningful connections. What I couldn't have imagined then was how much LifeChanger itself would grow, evolve, and impact thousands of lives across Australia and NZ. Today, a decade later, I am proud to be part of the team, helping to organise LifeChanger Adventure Challenges that provide extraordinary, money-can't-buy experiences in some of the most remarkable locations across Australia and New Zealand. It’s a role that combines so many of the things I am passionate about - personal growth, human connection, challenge, and of course, the great outdoors.

As a former elite athlete, I understand the transformative power of stepping beyond what's comfortable. Sport taught me that growth isn't found when everything goes to plan; it happens in moments that challenge us, stretch us, and sometimes even test us. That's why the LifeChanger Adventure Challenges resonate so deeply with me; they create the space for people to discover just how capable they really are.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of watching participants from all walks of life embark on these journeys. They arrive carrying different stories, experiences, fears, and expectations. Some come seeking adventure. Others come looking for purpose, connection, or simply a reset from the demands of everyday life.

What unfolds over the following days is always remarkable.

Whether we're trekking through the rugged beauty of Tasmania’s breathtaking wilderness, standing beneath the towering peaks of New Zealand's Southern Alps, or exploring some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes Australia has to offer, something special happens when people are removed from their normal environment and challenged in new ways.

The physical challenge becomes only part of the story.

It's the conversations shared on a trail. The encouragement offered during a difficult climb. The vulnerability around a campfire after a long day. The laughter echoing from shared tents, the breakthroughs, the friendships formed, and the confidence gained along the way.

I've watched individuals who arrived full of self-doubt - those nervous faces are usually easy to spot - discover a level of resilience they never knew existed. People push beyond what they believed were their limits and leave with a renewed sense of confidence, purpose, and possibility. Others reconnect with their values and gain clarity on what truly matters in their lives. Teams strengthen relationships, improve communication, and return home with a deeper understanding of one another.

These moments of growth are different for everyone, but the transformation is always remarkable to witness.

These experiences remind me that transformation doesn't always happen through grand gestures. More often, it happens through small moments repeated over time, one step, one conversation, one challenge at a time.

In many ways, this mirrors LifeChanger's own story.

What began as Scott Watters' powerful vision ten years ago has grown into an organisation that has impacted countless youth, schools, families, workplaces, mentors, and communities. Through mental health and wellbeing programs, mentoring initiatives, parent and teacher resources, and transformational experiences, LifeChanger has continued to evolve while remaining true to its purpose: helping people recognise their potential and create positive change.

The growth has been extraordinary, but what has remained constant is the people.

The passionate staff.

The dedicated facilitators and mentors.

The supporters and partners who believe in the mission.

As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, I feel incredibly grateful to have been part of the journey for the past decade. I've seen firsthand that LifeChanger is about far more than programs, events, or adventures. It's about creating environments where people can discover who they are, what they're capable of, and how they can positively impact others.

Our Adventure Challenges are a perfect reflection of that mission. The mountains, coastlines, forests, and trails provide the backdrop, but the real journey is always the one taking place within.

As we look ahead to the next ten years, I'm excited about what is still to come. If the past decade has taught me anything, it's that when people are given the opportunity to challenge themselves, connect authentically, and embrace growth, incredible things happen. Thank you to everyone who has been part of the LifeChanger story so far. Here's to ten years of impact, connection, courage, and transformation and to the many lives still waiting to be changed.
